MAKE IT
MAKE SENSE (GUEST BLOGGER)
I
wanted my first post as a guest blogger here to be fluffy and happy go lucky
vibe and all that jazz but there is no light in Nigeria ,heat has been
unbearable and traffic ehn ,”o worst”.
That
preamble is to prepare you for that this isn’t one of such posts.
So I
have often wondered a lot and sometimes aloud to my sisters about a particular
testimony people share in church .I believe strongly this testimony should in
fact be regarded as an attack of the devil and should be a prayer point
instead.
It is
usually goes thus:
Pastor: Mummy Tope ,share your testimony with us.
*Mummy Tope uses 1 minute out of her 3 minutes to
render praises to God when she has been specifically told not to because no
time, but Mummy Tope is a typical Nigerian and can’t be shut down.
Mummy Tope: I am here to testify to the goodness
of the Lord. Daddy Tope that has left us for 25 years has finally repented and
he came home last week.
*Mummy Tope sobs uncontrollably*
Mummy Tope: Daddy Tope left shortly after Tope was
born. He left us for Sisi Jetwe and she had 2 kids with him but I know that Sisi
Jetwe charmed him oooo, she charmed him * insert dramatic hand wave here* but
look at God ,he brought Daddy Tope back to us.
He ran into
hard times financially and he went for a deliverance, the Pastor prayed for him
and the scale fell off his eyes, now he has come back to us .He is penniless
and but what is important is our Daddy is back.
First
of all Mummy Tope, I hate to break it to you but that does not quite ring like
a testimony and here is why: that’s not Daddy Tope, that is a relic. That is a
man that has used his most useful years serving someone/ some people other than
you. That is a man that has nothing to offer you financially (sometimes)
,romantically ,friendshipcally (yes ,I used the word),spiritually and even
mentally.
What brought Daddy Tope back is poverty; he knows that you ,gullible
Mummy Tope, will always take him back no matter what he does.
Tope is
now 25, so what exactly is Daddy Tope bringing to the table for her now that he
is almost finished. It surely can’t be fatherly advice because that is now
easily accessible through uncles / mentors. Tope feels no attachment, no
nothing, just the memory of that lone night her Dad stepped out for what seemed
then like his usual stroll but he never came back. His friend came back though,
2 days after, to pack his things.
Tope just got her first entry level job and she
can finally breath freely and spoil Mummy Tope but lo and behold Daddy Tope is
now back to reap where he did not sow. Tope had planned to take her mum to
Dubai in December for their first trip outside Nigeria but that won’t work
anymore because now her mum won’t want to leave her newly returned love all by
his lonesome self.
Oh also,
the expenses in the house has doubled because Daddy Tope has some medical needs
that cost money. There is also the inconvenience of emotional tension in the
air when Tope returns from work and there is this awkward silence because Tope
and her Dad have nothing to say to each other. I almost forgot to add that Sisi
Jetwe threw DT out hence the reason we are gathered here today.
Daddy Tope is a liability.
PS: If
you have wronged anyone and you wait until you are knocking on heaven’s door to
repent and beg their forgiveness because of the fear of hell, you are worse
than scum of the earth. If you also wait until you are basically useless to
come back to your family, you are a heathen.
PSS: Daddy Tope can also be a Mummy Tope.
Doxology!!
Interesting take.
ReplyDeleteI had to agree with the guest blogger.
DeleteDon't be used....this is 2019!
Hmmm..... See what society has imposed on us. Well I believe we should forgive those who trespass against us but Mummy Tope should receive sense o, miss Dubai trip keh? Or other rewards of her Labour?
ReplyDeleteShe should not miss out on life.
Shebi na bible talk am....forgive those who trespass against us bah?
ReplyDeleteIt is well.
I need to trademark this Tope name, loool. But seriously, but people need to stop using other people and we need to recognize when we are being used, love or not. It's okay to forgive, but don't let affliction rise again. We will not see devil.
ReplyDeletemeaning ani ri esu ko yen.
DeleteOh yessss, lool
DeleteWell, just a thought..... Have you really given a thought why Mummy Tope actually accepted Daddy Tope back?
ReplyDeleteWhat could have informed her decision?
Mummy Tope is mad
DeleteDazzal.
